Carnival in Barcelos
February is the month when lots of towns in Portugal celebrate their famous carnivals.
And Ponte de Lima is no exception, but I am not going to write about this one but the one in the town of Barcelos.
To be honest they are pretty much the same all over the country:
school parades, kids wearing costumes, huge concerts on the main square and lots of traditional Portuguese dishes and decadent fair food.
I happen to like Barcelo’s carnival over ours in
Ponte de Lima because I think it’s bigger and also on one of the nights of the carnival they organize a mask contest where participants show incredible creativity and is so much fun to watch!
And just like in our Feiras Novas in September the carnival ends with the “Cabeçudos**”parade.
So, if you are in town in the month of February, forget about San Valentine’s and come to celebrate CARNAVAL!
**Cabeçudos: Giant dolls usually made of papier mache.
