Again Youtube played an important rol in our lives:
the almighty algorithm kept sending videos related to Portugal: In one of those, there was an american couple who retired in a small vila in the northern of Portugal in a town completly unknown to us.
Who am I kiddding,,,, other than Lisbon, Porto and of course Fatima since I am a devoted lover of her, we did not know anything about other places in Portugal, but the video was showing wonderful views of the town and the couple was so excited about moving and they would talked about how much the enjoyed there and how happy they felt living there.
So, next thing I am making an appointment with the person who was behind the
YT channel.
Once we arrived in Ponte de Lima we met for coffee with Vitor
( guy who made the famos video).
It turned out to be a very productive meeting and thanks to that we were able to obtain our NIFS which are essential documents in order to do anything here in this country:
From enrolling kids on schools to open bank accounts or to do any kind of shopping, this number is really one of the first and foremost things to obtain if somebody wants to live in Portugal.
All this is happening with the mindset of simply putting things together for our eventual retirement. Long story short, after obtaining the nifs, we moved into opening a bank account. It was a fairly easy process. First we tried at Novobanco without success and then we went fo Millenium Bank.
It was a walked-in type of experience and maybe 20 minutes later we walked out with a flamant new bank account.
I’m mentioning this 2 particular details because we learnt later on our process that this two moves were pivotal for the residence process that at least up to this point we were NOT pursuing )))
